Homeless families and individuals living in the streets and sidewalks in Zamboanga City were rescued by the local government.

The city’s Task Force Mendicants is strengthening its efforts to rescue street dwellers and bring them to the Mendicant Center so they can have a temporary shelter.

“Actually, mao na ang gi-agree sa Task Force Mendicants nga i -clear ang atung kadalanan gikan sa street families, street children, kadtung diligayod violent, and psychotic vagrant,” City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Assistant Head, Darick Fabian, said.

CSWDO said aside from road clearing operations, the city government is also concerned about rescuing street families and children to address their needs and protect them from untoward incidents.

“Dili lang man kita naga-after sa pag clear, lakip na sab ang ilang welfare… Kung anaa sila sa street, daghan mga panghitabo sama sa accident, human ang atu sab weather condition,” Fabian added.

Data from CSWDO showed that the number of individuals rescued from the streets has reached 343 from January to August 13, 2024. Most of them are from Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Iligan City.

The individuals rescued are set to be brought back to their respective places so they can live with their families or relatives.
