The Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) of Zamboanga City aims to reach its target of planting one million trees in 2024.

OCENR has already achieved 80 percent of the target after planting additional 700 trees on Friday, August 2, bringing the total number of planted trees to 801,500.

Around 200 volunteers participated in the tree planting activity from local and national government agencies and non-government organizations.

Most of the trees planted were narra and bamboo.

The local government also considers planting trees in every barangay every month.

According to OCENR, the initiative is a nature-based solution to fight climate change and is seen to reduce the impact of calamities.
