Water rate in Davao City is expected to go up in July 2024.

In a statement, the Davao City Water District (DCWD) said it is set to implement an increase of 9.99 percent in the water rate.

The water rate adjustment will take effect for the July consumption and will be reflected in the August 2024 billing.

According to DCWD, the rate adjustment will be implemented to fund its 10-year development plan until 2030, which focuses on sustainable water service in the city.

These include service improvement for existing customers, service expansion to cater more service connections including the development of additional water sources to meet the increasing water demand, ensuring water safety, operational efficiency, among others.

DCWD added that the water rate adjustment was approved by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) and it was part of the three-tranche implementation of the 60 percent water rate adjustment that the water utility requested in 2021.

The first tranche was implemented in August 2022 and the second tranche was implemented in February 2024.

Despite the increase, DCWD assured that its water rate is still one of the most affordable among water districts in the country.
