Volunteers from different sectors have gathered to plant mangroves around the esplanade in Bayug Island, Tibangga, Iligan City.
Among the volunteers include students, teachers, and representatives from the local government, police, military, non-government organizations and socio-civic groups.
According to Pakigdait Foundation, the mangrove tree planting was conducted because of the huge impact Typhoon Sendong has caused in the city in 2011.
The local government aims to plant 10,000 mangroves.
Other volunteers also conducted cleanup drive in the city.
