Water supply to at least three barangays in Naga City, Camarines Sur is disrupted for five days due to maintenance work, the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) said.

Maintenance work started on February 5, 2024 and is expected to continue until Saturday, February 10, 2024.

The weak and intermittent water flow has compelled residents like Teresita Mumpar to store water in containers to ensure they have ample supply.

"Syempre kaipuhan, dae pwedeng mayong tubig pirming igwang tubig, mawaraan na nin ilaw tubig dae pwede," she said.

Even water refilling stations in the barangays affected - San Isidro, Cararayan, Balatas - and surrounding areas, have limited operations.

Florencio Mongoso Jr., the General Manager of MNWD, explained that the preventive maintenance aims to address quality issues and non-compliance with MNWD standards at the San Isidro 1 Pumping Station.

To mitigate the effects, MNWD will extend its operating hours at nearby pumping stations by an additional two to four working hours.

"Si 18-hours magiging 20 or 22 [hours] depende po sa pangangaipo ta pinagg-iiwasan ta kuta na ma-overwork man si ibang pumping stations," Mongoso said.

While the San Isidro 1 Pumping Station is currently non-operational, MNWD maintains 26 other functional pumping stations across its service area.
