Imelda says Marcos is real EDSA hero
Two decades after the People Power revolt drove her family out of Malacañang, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos said the real hero at EDSA was her husband, the late President Ferdinand Marcos. Mrs. Marcos said, as commander-in-chief, her husband could have ordered the military to disperse the people who massed up on EDSA on February 22, 1986. However, the besieged president allowed the people to continue gathering despite obvious threats to his government and family. "It would have been a terrible day if Marcos used the military, but he did not use power. He did not want to hurt or kill anyone," she said. "He did the sacrifice because he was a man of peace. It is true what a lot of people say, the real hero of EDSA was in Malacañang," she said. Her daughter Rep. Imee Marcos (2D, Ilocos Norte) said, the first People Power revolt is an occasion she recognizes but could never accept. She said the People Power uprising merely ââ¬Åopened the door for some to take action against government through extra-legal and extra-constitutional means" instead of bringing reforms for the people. It also caused the people to lose respect and fear for the law, she said. Rep. Marcos said corruption turned for the worse after the uprising. ââ¬ÅThe Marcos administration had a clearer vision and direction. It had tangible projects and programs," she said. -GMANEWS.TV
