South Korea announced as next host of World Youth Day

South Korea's capital Seoul will be the next city to host World Youth Day (WYD) when the global gathering of young Catholics is held again in 2027, Pope Francis said.

The Pope made the announcement on Sunday in Lisbon, Portugal, during a holy mass to close World Youth Day 2023.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines noted that this will mark the return of the event to Asia after 32 years. The Philippines hosted the event in 1995, becoming the first and so far only Asian country to host World Youth Day. — BM, GMA Integrated News
