Marcos to Zelensky: We are with you in search for peace
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. expressed unity with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in the latter's "search for peace" amid Russia's attack against Ukraine.
Marcos made the commitment during his phone call with Zelenskiy.
"I had the pleasure of talking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy yesterday. I told him that we in the Philippines are watching with admiration, the bravery and the nationalism that has been displayed by the Ukrainians during this crisis and that we join in his effort to reach a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in his country," Marcos said in a tweet on Tuesday.
"Mr. President, we are with you in your search for peace," the Philippine President told Zelenskiy.
For his part, Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to Marcos "for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine." The Ukrainian leader said they discussed further deepening of cooperation in particular international platforms.
Marcos has noted that his government would have no problem engaging with Zelenskiy, and that he supports "any effort toward peace."
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February, 24, 2022, in what its President Vladimir Putin claimed was a "special military operation" to "de-Nazify" the country.
The invasion has been denounced by most countries, including the Philippines. —Anna Felicia Bajo/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
