IN PHOTOS: Australia bushfires threaten animals
Animals remained at risk from bushfires in Australia, 50 of which were still uncontained in New South Wales as of Wednesday.
Kangaroos, koalas, cattle and birds, among others, have been fleeing bushfire areas, but some of them did not make it.
Authorities said 129 fires were still ablaze across New South Wales as of Wednesday.
Although the temperatures became cooler and light rain poured, Australian authorities on Wednesday urged residents along the east coast to be ready to evacuate.
More than 10.3 million hectares (25.5 million acres) of land — an area the size of South Korea — have been razed by bushfires across Australia, according to the latest data, with the southeast particularly hard hit.
