A timeline of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution
The 1986 People Power Revolution is one of the most pivotal moments in Philippine history and perhaps the single most influential event that shaped the country's current political scene.
Spanning four days, from February 22 to 25, the peaceful movement ended the two-decade regime of late President Ferdinand Marcos.
It began with then-Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile and former Philippine Constabulary chief Fidel Ramos turning their backs on Marcos, who ordered the non-fatal repression of forces in light of escalating resistance against his regime.
This culminated in millions gathering at EDSA to call for Marcos' ouster and to the swearing-in of Cory Aquino, the widow of slain Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., as president and the Marcos family fleeing Malacanang to end Martial Law. --Rie Takumi/JST, GMA News
