Infographic: What goes into your electricity bill?

Consumers are not only paying for the actual power they use every month, which only accounts for about half of the actual bill. Each household also helps pay for the pilferage of others (under system losses), and for the discounts given to poor and elderly Meralco customers, among other costs.

The approved Meralco electricity rate increase, a record-setting rate hike announced shortly before Christmas, will reflect mostly in the generation charge, which is paid to power suppliers, including the National Power Corporation (NPC), independent power producers, and the wholesale electricity spot market.

Meralco will be charging the P4.15 power rate hike against the bills of its consumers in three trenches.
