Residents evacuated from flood-prone areas in Romblon amid Habagat
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas of Romblon were evacuated amid continuous rain and rising floodwaters brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), the Romblon Coast Guard Station said Saturday.
In a social media post, the Coast Guard said 12 residents from three families were safely evacuated from Barangay Tulay in Odiongan, Romblon, at around 1 a.m.
They were transferred to the Tulay Barangay Hall and the Municipal Evacuation Center in Barangay Dapawan, Odiongan.
Meanwhile, at least 11 individuals were evacuated from Sitio Maligaya Riverside in Barangay Poblacion, Looc, Romblon, at around 2:05 a.m. The evacuees were transferred to the Barangay Poblacion Hall.
Authorities also evacuated a family of five in Barangay Madalag, Alcantara, and transferred them to the barangay hall.
“The evacuees were advised to remain at the evacuation centers until the floodwaters have subsided and the affected areas have been declared safe by the concerned authorities,” the Romblon Coast Guard said.
The evacuations were conducted jointly with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and local police stations, it added. —VBL, GMA News
