2 dead, 1 hurt as landslide hits bulalo eatery in Benguet
Two people died while another was injured after a landslide buried the kitchen of a bulalo eatery in Barangay Shilan, La Trinidad, Benguet on Thursday morning, according to the police.
Based on the police report, the incident happened around 9 a.m.
The three cooks were trapped by the landslide, which prompted search, rescue, and retrieval operations.
Benguet Police Provincial Office director Police Colonel Dionisio Bonoy said all three victims had been retrieved by around 10:30 a.m.
Two of the victims aged 55 and 31 were declared dead on the spot.
The other victim aged 66 was rescued alive about 10 a.m. and was taken to Benguet General Hospital for treatment.
“One is alive. Two are already dead on the spot,” Bonoy said.
He attributed the landslide to continuous rainfall that had saturated the soil over the past four days.
Authorities already evacuated people living or staying near the site due to more possible landslides, according to the police. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
