Coast Guard Catanduanes cancels sea trips due to Tropical Depression Luis

The Philippine Coast Guard Station in Catanduanes on Sunday temporarily banned sea travel to and from the province due to the threat of Tropical Depression Luis.

Catanduanes is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 and may expect winds of 39 to 61 kilometers per hour, PAGASA said.

"Pursuant to existing maritime guidelines, all vessel movements originating from, transiting through, or bound to the province of Catanduanes are still SUSPENDED, regardless of vessel type or tonnage, except to seek shelter," the Coast Guard Station Catanduanes said in its 11 a.m. sea travel advisory.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard Station Catanduanes and its sub-stations and mobile teams activated their Deployable Response Groups to enable them to immediately respond to maritime emergencies due to Tropical Depression Luis.

The center of Luis was last monitored at 10 a.m. at 400 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 70 kilometers per hour.

Luis is moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour, said PAGASA. —KG, GMA News
