Teacher mauled by 2 students in Davao de Oro after flagging school policy violation

A male teacher was injured after he was mauled by two students at a high school in Maco, Davao de Oro, after calling out one of them for wearing an earring in violation of school policy on Monday, July 27.

In a “24 Oras” report by GMA Regional TV’s Jandi Esteban on Tuesday, viral video footage showed the students punching the teacher at the covered court of Elizalde National High School.

According to the teacher’s statement to Maco police, he called out a student for wearing an earring, prompting the student to become angry and punch him.

Esteban reported that the student who was reprimanded threw the first punch, hitting the teacher in the face. The student’s sibling then joined in and punched the teacher from behind.

The incident lasted several seconds before nearby students intervened and broke up the fight.

GMA News tried to reach the school administration but was not allowed to enter the school premises. The school principal also declined to give an on-camera statement.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Davao Region said the incident had been referred to the school’s guidance office for administrative action.

The two students, both minors, were brought to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.

Meanwhile, the DepEd Davao de Oro Division said it was investigating the incident.

“We are still awaiting the final and official incident report coming from the Schools Division Office of Davao de Oro. The teacher submitted himself for a medical intervention because of what transpired,” DepEd-11 spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said. — Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/MCG, GMA News
