The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against a truck driver involved in a multi-vehicle incident in San Ildefonso, Bulacan that resulted in the death of a rider.

The LTO has ordered the truck driver allegedly involved in multiple collisions that occurred along Cagayan Valley Road in Barangays Sapang Putol and Matimbubong San Ildefonso, Bulacan on July 21 to explain his actions.

The CCTV footage showed that the truck hit the back of a vehicle, that pushed the next two vehicle in front of it.

Due to the force of the collision, one of the vehicles entered the national road and hit a motorcycle, causing its rider to fall and be run over by the truck. Another vehicle parked on the side of the road while picking up passengers was also hit in the incident.

The investigation also revealed that before the incident, the truck allegedly hit another vehicle in Barangay Matimbubong but it did not stop. While the said motorist was chasing the truck, he witnessed a series of collisions.

"Due to the violations, the truck driver is ordered to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) office at the scheduled hearing to explain why he should not be charged with Reckless Driving, and why he should not be subject to the corresponding penalty such as suspension or revocation of his license, or disqualification from obtaining a driver's license for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Republic Act No. 4136," the LTO said in a statement.

The operator of said vehicle was also ordered to explain why he should not be held responsible for the case of employing a reckless driver.

The truck driver has been directed to surrender his driver's license to the LTO. His license will also be subject to a 90-day preventive suspension during the course of the investigation while the truck was placed in alarm.

The registered owner and driver of one of the vehicles involved in the incident was required to appear before the IID office for a clarificatory hearing and to submit a sworn statement, and other documents that may assist in the ongoing investigation.

"Isang buhay ang nawala sa insidenteng ito, kaya hindi maaaring maging mababaw ang pagtingin natin dito. Ang bawat detalye ay dapat masuri at ang bawat may pananagutan ay dapat managot. Iyan ang pananagutang hindi kailanman tatalikuran ng LTO," said Lacanilao.

(A life was lost in this incident, so we cannot look at it lightly. Every detail must be examined and everyone responsible must be held accountable. That is a responsibility that the LTO will never shirk.)
