Kiko Barzaga's mother Jenny files candidacy for Dasmariñas representative

Dasmariñas Mayor Jennifer Barzaga, the mother of expelled Congressman Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga, has filed her Certificate of Candidacy on Friday as the seat for the 4th legislative district of Cavite opened.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) opened the legislative seat after the younger Barzaga was expelled by the House of Representatives over disorderly behavior and conduct unbecoming of a House member, including repeated failure to perform his duty as a lawmaker.

In a Facebook post, the Dasmariñas mayor, who filed her COC on the final day, announced her bid for the position.

"With your trust and support, I remain committed to serving every Dasmarineño and continuing the progress of our beloved City of Dasmariñas," Barzaga said.

In a statement released on Friday, Comelec announced the final list of candidates for the 4th legislative district of Cavite:

• Mangubat, Raul Rex Del Rosario
• Dupal-ag, Marvin Opamin
• Ordenes, Leysander Aguilar
• Frani, Jacinto Bautista Jr.
• Barzaga, Jennifer Austria

The campaign period is scheduled to run from July 30, 2026, to August 27, 2026. The special election for the 4th legislative district of Cavite post is scheduled for August 29, 2026.

The official election period will run from July 30, 2026, to September 13, 2026.

During the election period, the Comelec reminds the public of the gun ban in Dasmariñas—which prohibits carrying, bearing, or transporting firearms and other deadly weapons in public places or private vehicles, regardless of whether the owner holds a valid license to carry. –NB, GMA News
