Manaoag school suspends face-to-face classes over social media threat

A public high school in Pangasinan suspended face-to-face classes on Friday after a Facebook post containing a shooting threat against a school identified only by the initials "MNHS" circulated on social media.

In School Principal's Order No. 01, Series of 2026, Manaoag National High School announced the suspension of in-person classes on July 17 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel.

"In view of a possible security threat circulating on social media, and as part of the school's proactive measures to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all learners, teachers, and personnel, face-to-face classes at Manaoag National High School are hereby suspended today, Friday, July 17, 2026," the order read.

The school said it would implement the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) to ensure learning continuity, with teachers instructed to provide learning activities and maintain communication with students through established platforms.

Although authorities have yet to determine which "MNHS" was referred to in the social media post, the administration of Manaoag National High School took the threat seriously, the local government unit (LGU) said.

The school immediately coordinated with the concerned authorities to ensure the safety of everyone on campus, the LGU added.

Following verification, the LGU said authorities reported no untoward incidents, no injuries, and no evidence that any dangerous weapons had entered the school premises.

Strict security protocols remain in place, while police officers continue to maintain a presence on campus as an added precaution.

Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the person responsible for the malicious Facebook post. —VBL, GMA News
