Masbate bet to answer show cause order on alleged emergency text blast

The camp of Masbate gubernatorial candidate Richard Kho will respond to the show cause order issued by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) regarding the use of emergency text blast machines for campaigning. 

According to a report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, vice-gubernatorial bet Fernando Talisic, Masbate City mayoral candidate Olga Tingcungco Kho, and 2nd District congressional candidate Elisa Tingcungco Kho were also asked to answer the order.

However, the Masbate provincial legal officer said that the involved candidates are not allowed to discuss the issue further because of the show cause order.

The COMELEC earlier emphasized that using such equipment for political campaigns is a violation of the Omnibus Election Code and may also amount to the misuse of public resources, as these machines are typically used by localities for emergency communication during calamities.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
