Magalong urges travelers to take bus to Baguio on Holy Week 2025
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong discouraged the public from bringing their own car and to take the bus when going to the city to avoid traffic congestion.
In Mav Gonzales’ Monday report on “24 Oras,” some tourists opted to visit Baguio earlier to avoid the crowd.
However, some of them have difficulty finding a parking space.
“I would really encourage itong tourists natin, take the bus. Itong historical data shows matindi ang traffic talaga rito during holiday seasons,” Magalong said.
(I would really encourage our tourists to take the bus. Historical data shows that there is heavy traffic during the holidays.)
The Baguio City government has yet to announce if it will lift the number coding scheme this Holy Week, so commuting or walking around the city is a better option.
There are also signages indicating the distance to a certain tourist spot and calories that one might burn from walking.
“Baguio is a walkable city. We tell them to leave vehicles in their respective hotels. Mas safe at di sumiksik sa traffic (It’s safer, and you can avoid the traffic),” said Joma Rivera, Baguio City senior tourism operations officer.
At least 150,000 tourists are expected to come to Baguio on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday this year.
Earlier today, some visitors were observed in Burham Park, engaging in activities such as riding a go kart, bicycle, and boat nd enjoying the cool weather. As of Monday, Baguio City experienced a 20°C temperature. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
