CAAP advises pilots anew to avoid flying near Kanlaon Volcano

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has issued a new Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) on Wednesday following the latest eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.
The NOTAM covers flights with vertical limits from the surface to 11,000 feet. It advises flight operators to avoid flying close to the volcano due to possible hazards of sudden explosive eruption and ashfall.
“The latest NOTAM will be effective from April 9, 2025 at 2:08 p.m. to April 10, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.,” the advisory read.
Located in Negros Island, Kanlaon had an explosive eruption at 5:51 a.m. on Tuesday and lasted until 6:47 a.m., according to PHIVOLCS.
Alert Level 3 remains hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is a high level of volcanic unrest.
Possible hazards from the volcano include sudden explosive eruption, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, pyroclastic density current, rockfall, and lahars during heavy rains. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/VBL, GMA Integrated News
