4 cops relieved after allegedly hurting complainant in Ilocos Norte

Four cops have been relieved from their posts, including the Pasuquin Police chief, after allegedly hurting a man reporting a complaint to their station, the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Police said.

According to a report on GMA Integrated News’ Unang Balita on Wednesday, two men on March 30 went to the police station to report that they were assaulted at a wake.

However, one of the complainants allegedly raised his voice, which irked a cop.

One of the police officers then allegedly hurled expletives at the complainant and hurt him. A video of the incident has gone viral online.

Ilocos Norte Police said that the cops and the chief of police were relieved the following day.

“Immediately in the morning, nire-relieve ko muna yung ating chief of police,” Ilocos Norte Police chief Police Colonel Frederick Obar said during a press conference.

“Tapos yung mga na-identify namin sa police station na kasama doon sa tulakan, nire-relieve na rin muna namin at nandito na po sila sa provincial headquarters for further investigation,” he added.

(The police officers at the police station who were involved in the incident, we also relieved them and they are now at the provincial headquarters for further investigation.)

GMA Regional TV has sought comment from the Pasuquin Police chief but he has yet to reply as of posting time. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
