PHIVOLCS reports grassfire on Taal Volcano Island


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a grassfire on the southwest portion of Taal Volcano Island on Tuesday.

According to an advisory, the fire was first detected at 11:24 a.m. and directly impacted the Taal Volcano Binintiang Munti (VTBM) Observation Station.

Similar incidents were previously recorded on March 3, 2023, and May 2, 2024.

“PHIVOLCS is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils of Batangas Province,” the agency stated.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
