3 family members hurt after LPG tank explodes

Three family members were severely injured after an LPG tank being installed exploded in Taytay, Rizal.
In Nico Waje’s Monday report on “Saksi,” the LPG tank exploded while it was being installed in a store in Barangay San Juan on March 28.
People inside were able to get out while neighbors and a firetruck responded to extinguish the blaze.
The victims were a 54-year-old female, her son, and a 21-year-old man.
According to a relative, the victims did not know there was a leak in the LPG tank.
When it was being installed, other burners were open since people were cooking.
The relative added the victims need to be confined in the hospital due to the severe burns they sustained in different parts of their bodies.
The investigation of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Taytay is still ongoing.
The BFP reminded the public to be careful when installing LPG tanks, ensure the burners are closed, and that there are no other sources of fire ignition.
In the absence of fire extinguishers, the BFP said canned or bottled softdrinks can help put out a fire, since it is a carbonated drink.
A firefighter responding to the explosion used water mixed with dishwashing liquid soap to put out the fire.
The family of the victims is seeking help for their medical expenses. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
