DOTr to inspect Busuanga Airport in Coron for improvements

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is planning to inspect the Busuanga Airport in Coron, Palawan in line with its efforts to improve the travel experience of Filipinos and foreigners in the country, Secretary Vince Dizon said Sunday.

This came after improvements were sought in Siargao Airport.

“Talagang hindi maganda ang estado ng ating airport lalo na du'n sa top tourist destination natin. 'Yan ang prayoridad natin ngayon,” Dizon told Super Radyo DzBB.

(The state of our airport is not good, especially in our top tourist destination. That is our priority now.)

“Ang susunod nating pupuntahan ay Busuanga (Airport). Ganu'n din sa Coron, ganu'n din ang naririnig natin. Sikat na sikat, gustong puntahan ng ating mga kababayan at turista, pero hindi masyadong maayos ang airport at maliit din. Titignan natin kung ano magagawa natin,” he added.

(Our next destination is Busuanga Airport. We hear the same thing in Coron where it is very popular among our countrymen and tourists but the airport is not very good and is small. We will see what we can do.)

During his inspection of regional airports last March 22 to 23, Dizon directed modular expansion in Siargao Airport to increase seating capacity and address the heavy crowding.

He also ordered the removal of the VIP lounge and redundant X-ray machines to speed up the security check process.

During the Super Radyo dzBB interview, Dizon said the modular expansion would be completed in six months.

“Plano nating gawing international airport ang Siargao (We plan to make the Siargao airport an international airport),” Dizon said. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/KG, GMA Integrated News
