Kanlaon emits 'weak ash emission'

A "weak ash emission" was observed in Kanalon Volcano on Saturday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

"A plume that rose 500 meters above the crater as recorded by the thermal camera in the Lower Masulog (VKLM) observation station in Canlaon City," said PHIVOLCS.

Alert Level 3 remains up in Kanlaon Volcano as it continues to show signs of unrest.

PHIVOLCS previously recorded 10 volcanic earthquakes on March 15, and 2,639 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on March 9.

The public is advised to stay away from the volcano’s Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), and recommends evacuation of residents located within 6 kilometers from the volcano’s crater. --Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
