PNP pursuing leads in standup comic Gold Dagal's killing

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it is looking into some leads in the fatal shooting of standup comedian Gold Dagal in Angeles City, Pampanga.

“Meron na rin po tayong mga lead na pinu-pursue pero hindi pa po tayo makapagbigay ng specific details para hindi ma-preempt 'yung ongoing investigation natin,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing.

(We also have leads that we are pursuing but we cannot provide specific details so as not to preempt our ongoing investigation.)

“As to the motives, marami po tayong tinitignan diyan. May mga lumalabas po sa social media na ilang mga pananaw kung ano po 'yung motibo sa pagpatay. 'Yan din po 'yung tinitignan po ng Angeles City Police Station,” she added.

(As for the motives, we are looking into many things. There are some speculations on social media about the motive for his murder. That is also what the Angeles City Police Station is looking into.)

On March 15, one of three male suspects approached the 38-year-old comedian inside a dining establishment where he was supposedly preparing to perform and shot him several times before fleeing.

Fajardo said Dagal was shot on the lower part of his eye and the bullet exited to the back of his head.

Recovered from the crime scene were fired cartridge cases from caliber 45 firearms, according to Fajardo.

Dagal’s mother Jocelyn Cruz believes that the person behind the killing was offended by her son’s jokes.

“A hired killer ended his life and made sure he does not survive. Why this happened? I know those he offended with his jokes during one of his stints in his stand-up comedy shows, had planned to end his life like how they constantly threatened,” she said.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
