Alleged hitman killed in gunfight with Calabarzon police

A suspected gun-for-hire was killed in a shootout with police in Calamba, Laguna as authorities attempted to serve four arrest warrants against him.

According to John Consulta’s 24 Weekend report, officers from the Calabarzon police surrounded the suspect’s house early in the operation.

Before entering, they safely removed a child from one of the rooms. However, moments later, the suspect allegedly threw a grenade at the officers.

Tension escalated when the suspect emerged with a firearm and opened fire.

As he attempted to evade arrest, he fired at one of the officers.

This led to a brief but intense exchange of gunfire, ultimately resulting in the 30-year-old suspect’s death.

The suspect was among the most wanted in Region 4-A.

“Noong nakita nilang hindi pumutok ang granada is yun naman ang pagbuga ng putok galing doon sa suspek natin at yun nga nagkaroon ng engkwengtro,” said Police Brigadier General Paul Kenneth Lucas, Regional Director- PSO 4A.

(When they saw that the grenade did not explode, that’s when the suspect started firing at the officers, which led to the shootout.)

“Itong suspek natin is mayroon siyang apat na warrant of arrest, dalawang murder at dalawang attempted murder. Allegedly, isa ito sa mga gun for hire,”  he added.

(This suspect had four arrest warrants—two for murder and two for attempted murder. Allegedly, he was a hired gunman.)

Following the shootout, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Calabarzon police arrived at the scene to recover the unexploded grenade.

Authorities also seized the suspect’s firearm, which will undergo ballistic examination to determine if it was used in other shooting incidents in the region. — Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
