Magnitude 5.0 quake hits off the coast of Cateel, Davao Oriental

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit northeast of Cateel, Davao Oriental late Monday evening, the PHIVOLCS reported.

PHIVOLCS earlier reported that a magnitude 5.4 quake hit off the coast of Cateel.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin occurred at 11:41pm, with a depth of 31 kilometers.

The quake was also felt in the following areas:

• Intensity IV - Monkayo, Compostela, and Nabunturan, Davao de Oro
• Intensity III - City of Bislig and Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur; Maco, Laak, and Montevista, Davao de Oro
• Intensity II - Pantukan, Mawab, and Maragusan, Davao de Oro
• Intensity I - New Bataan, Davao de Oro; Cagwait and Tagbina, Surigao del Sur

No damage is expected, said PHIVOLCS, but there may be aftershocks. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
