Rodrigo Duterte supporters in the Visayas, Mindanao protest arrest of former president

Supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte in the Visayas and Mindanao assembled as they expressed their dismay and to show their support following his arrest for crimes against humanity.

According to a report of GMA Regional TV’s Efren Mamac in “Saksi” on Wednesday, supporters held protests in various provinces in the two regions.

Supporters in Davao City, the bailiwick of the Duterte family, held a candlelight vigil as they offered prayers and cried while watching the former president board a plane at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.

Others also blew their car horns to show their solidarity with other supporters.

In Cotabato City, an estimated 4,000 supporters wearing white shirts staged a unity walk from Parang Road to the city plaza where they held a prayer rally.

Prayer rallies were also held in the cities of General Santos and Kidapawan that drew large numbers of supporters.

An assembly in Bukidnon repeatedly shouted, “Duterte!” in unison as a display of unity with their fellow Mindanaoan.

In the cities of Butuan and Marawi, some people trooped to the streets to show their support while holding up banners proclaiming their support.

At the Pasonaca Freedom Park in Zamboanga, Duterte supporters also lit up candles in solidarity with the man they call “Tatay Digong” or “PRRD”.

A few supporters in Cebu City also shed tears while praying for the former president at an assembly.

But there were groups alongside the victims of extrajudicial killings who held a protest at the Fuente Osmeña Circle in Cebu City to express their approval of Duterte's arrest.

“Justice does not end with the arrest of the former president, but it continues until he gets jailed and claiming the real justice,” said Nico Booc, the sister of an alleged EJK victim, in the local language.
