Magnitude 5.6 quake strikes near Lingig, Surigao del Sur

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck in the waters off Lingig, Surigao del Sur late Wednesday evening, Phivolcs said.

The agency downgraded the earthquake from magnitude 5.7 as earlier posted.

The earthquake of tectonic origin was recorded to have occurred at 131 kilometers northeast of Lingig at 11:09 p.m. with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Reported intensity was reported Intensity III in Lingig, Hinatuan and City of Bislig in Surigao del Sur.

While damages are not expected, PHIVOLCS warned of possible aftershocks.
