Sarrat celebrates Binakol festival, showcases heritage weaving

Residents of Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, came together to celebrate the Binakol Festival to honor the town’s rich tradition of Abel weaving.

The festivities began with an opening parade featuring students and residents from various barangays.

An agro-trade fair was also held, where local farmers sold fresh vegetables, while artisans showcased Binakol products such as bags, wallets, clothing, and placemats.

Binakol, a type of handwoven fabric known for its intricate patterns, has been a long-standing product of Sarrat.

However, with only a few aging weavers left, efforts are being made to preserve and promote the industry for future generations. — GMA Regional TV News
