The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested a man in Tarlac for allegedly blackmailing his ex-girlfriend with compromising videos.
In Jun Veneracion’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” the suspect, when was arrested on Tuesday, was already overpowered by the police officers continued to struggle as he adamantly tried to escape.
PNP-ACG spokesperson Police Lieutenant Wallen Arancillo said the suspect used CCTV footage to blackmail his ex-girlfriend into getting back together.
“Since na obsessed po siya ayaw niya pong makita na may kasamang ibang lalaki itong victim,” Arancillo said.
(Since the suspect is obsessed, he does not want to see the victim with another man.)
The suspect is facing charges including robbery with intimidation, violation of the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act, and the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act.
GMA Integrated News has reached out to the suspect for comments.
PNP advise public to be cautious
To avoid falling in love with the wrong person, PNP-ACG reminded the public to be cautious, especially when using social media since one may fall victim to a scam.
In January, the PNP-ACG logged eight incidents of love scams, while it recorded 72 cases last year.
The police said individuals who belong to the 20 to 30 age bracket were the usual victims on Facebook.
“Maging mabusisi po tayo, Mas mainam po kausapin natin kung hindi man through call, mag video call po tayo and invite natin sila mag meet personally para at least maiwasan natin mabiktima tayo ng scam,” Arancillo said.
