Man crossing street to buy bread dies after being hit by MPV, 16-wheeler truck in Antipolo
A 35-year-old man died after he was hit by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and then run over by a 16-wheeler truck in Antipolo.
In EJ Gomez’s Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” CCTV footage showed that the victim was crossing the road in Barangay San Jose at 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
After he was hit by a fast-moving MPV, the victim was thrown off to the other lane and then he was run over by the truck. The victim died on the spot.
According to the Antipolo Police investigation, the victim was crossing the road to buy pandesal before the incident.
A witness said few vehicles were plying the road at that time but these were fast-moving.
Meanwhile, the truck driver immediately surrendered to the authorities and was detained thereafter.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Manongdo, chief of Antipolo Component City Police Station, said the truck driver admitted to running over the victim.
“However, during the course ng investigation, pinakita rin natin sa family na ito talaga yung nangyari. Mayroon tayong CCTV kung saan nagpapatunay na wala ng pagkakataon yung truck driver para maiiwas niya yung insidente,” Manongdo said.
(However, during the course of the investigation, we showed what happened to the family. We have CCTV footage that proves that the truck driver did not have the chance to avoid the incident.)
The victim’s family did not file charges against the truck driver while authorities are still searching for the MPV driver.
The victim’s family could not believe his passing. He is survived by his one-year-old baby, pregnant wife, and 11 siblings.
“Sana yung nakabangga sa asawa ko, magpakita na. Hustisya ang kailangan sa asawa ko. Hindi mababalik yung buhay ng asawa ko,” the victim’s wife said.
(I hope the MPV driver surrenders. My husband needs justice. He cannot be brought back to life.)
