PH, US air forces inaugurate fuel storage facility in Cebu

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) on Thursday inaugurated the fuel storage facility at Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

In a statement, the PAF said the project was under the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between Manila and Washington.

“This project, undertaken under the EDCA, will significantly improve the PAF's fuel storage and distribution capabilities, enhancing operational readiness and logistical efficiency,” the PAF said.

“It will support humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations, strengthen national defense capabilities, and sustain a wide range of PAF flying missions, including airlift, internal security, and territorial defense operations, thereby reinforcing the Air Force’s ability to respond to various operational demands,” it added.

Himalayan Builders and Engineers, as well as ACE Builders, started the construction of the fuel storage facility on June 22, 2022, and completed it on September 6, 2024.

The EDCA facility features two above-ground storage tanks, each with a capacity of 75,708 liters, according to the PAF.

It also has a modern fuel handling system, a covered parking area for refueling trucks, and a secured perimeter designed and constructed compliant to security and safety standards, it added.

The turnover and blessing ceremony was attended by PAF’s Air Mobility Command head Major General Ramil Oloroso and PACAF chief General Kevin Schneider.

Oloroso thanked PACAF for the completion of the EDCA project and its continued support and partnership with the Philippine military. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
