NDRRMC: 31 reported hurt, over 300 houses damaged in S. Leyte quake

A total of 31 people were reported injured while more than 300 houses were damaged due to the magnitude-5.8 earthquake that jolted San Francisco, Southern Leyte on January 23, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.

In its latest bulletin issued a day after the quake, the NDRRMC said it received reports of 31 injured persons and that efforts were underway to validate the information.

No one was reported killed or missing in the wake of incident, which occurred at 7:39 a.m. Thursday. The tectonic quake was recorded 6 kms off the coast of San Francisco, with a depth of 11 kms.

The NDRRMC said six houses were totally damaged and 342 homes were partially damaged in Southern Leyte.

Two roads and a bridge in the province which were affected by the quake are now passable.

Damaged infrastructure was logged at 49, all in Southern Leyte.

The NDRRMC has yet to report the cost of damage to any of the affected houses and structures.

In Liloan town, boulders tumbled to portions of a road in Barangay Tubugon due to the quake's impact. 

 

State volcanologists said Intensity VI was reported in San Francisco town but intensity levels were reported as far as Surigao City and Cagayan de Oro City.

On Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said over 160 aftershocks had been recorded. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
