DepEd probes street fight involving students in Zamboanga City

The Department of Education (DepEd) is looking into a street fight among male students in Zamboanga City.

According to the report of GMA Regional TV’s Efren Mamac in Saksi Thursday, camera footage showed two groups of male students exchange blows in Barangay Baliwasan last Tuesday, January 14.

The incident happened after the students’ first shift in school, the report added.

One of the students suddenly fell to the ground. Concerned citizens loaded the unconscious student on a motorcycle.

The other students involved in the fight ran away.

“We talked to the parents of one of the students involved, but they said that their son accidentally got caught in the fight as he just went there to accompany his friend,” said barangay secretary Michael Gregorio.

The DepEd said it wants the students involved in the scuffle to undergo counseling.

“We are waiting for the final incident report. The students are allegedly from the city high school, but we are still determining from which school the other students came from,” said Deped School Governance and Operations Chief Basilo Uy. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
