Magnitude 5.0 quake jolts Davao Occidental's Balut Island

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental, on Monday evening, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tectonic quake occurred 42 kilometers northwest of Balut Island at 7:41 p.m., with a depth of 24 kilometers.
The following intensities were recorded:
- Intensity IV: Kiamba, Sarangani
- Intensity III: General Santos City; Maasim and Maitum, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato
- Intensity II: Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
- Intensity I: Lake Sebu, South Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental
PHIVOLCS stated that damage from the earthquake was unlikely, although aftershocks were possible. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
