Kanlaon Volcano emits ash anew, logs 14 volcanic quakes
Kanlaon Volcano again emitted ash on Wednesday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
The first ash emission occurred at 1:06 a.m, and the second one at 6:25 a.m.
The NDRRMC warned those in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental to take precautions against possible ashfall.
"Maging Alerto, mga lalawigan ng #NegrosOccidental at #NegrosOriental! NDRRMC (01:30AM, 08Jan25)Lahat ay pinag-iingat sa maaaring pagpatak ng abo na ibinuga ng Bulkang Kanlaon dakong 01:06 ng madaling araw," it said in a post on X.

In its bulletin on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said one ash emission event occurred on Tuesday at Kanlaon Volcano lasting 29 minutes long.
Fourteen volcanic earthquakes were also recorded, including one volcanic tremor lasting 29 minutes.

A total of 2,924 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were emitted by the volcano on Tuesday.
Moderate plumes rising up to 300 meters tall were also observed, indicating continuous degassing. The plumes drifted in the southwest and west-southwest direction.
Kanlaon Volcano's edifice remains inflated, PHIVOLCS said.
Alert Level 3 (Intensified Unrest/Magmatic Unrest) remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano, it added.
The six-kilometer radius from the volcano's summit should be evacuated, the agency reiterated.
Flying aircraft close to the volcano should be prohibited, it added.
PHIVOLCS said Kanlaon Volcano may pose hazards such as:
- sudden explosive eruption;
- lava flow or effusion;
- ashfall;
- pyroclastic density current (PDC);
- rockfall; and
- lahars during heavy rains.
The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) is preparing a plan that includes transferring evacuees outside Canlaon City amid the continued activity of Kanlaon Volcano.
Civil Defense Central Visayas Director Joel Erestain announced on January 7 that discussions have been ongoing with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development since September of last year.
Kanlaon Volcano had an explosive eruption on December 9, prompting PHIVOLCS to raise the Alert Level from 2 to 3.
It also erupted on June 3, emitting 5,000-meter tall plumes. —KG, GMA Integrated News
