Damage to road in Lopez, Quezon due to landslide worsens
QUEZON - The damage to a road in Lopez, Quezon due to a landslide that occurred on December 14 has worsened.
Only light vehicles were allowed to pass the Lopez-Hondagua Road after part of the road further gave way following heavy rains.
The road first got damaged on December 14.
Houses that were on road level were pushed downward.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways 4th District Engineering Office, they conducted soil boring in the area.
They said they will immediately repair the road to enable motorists and residents to use it fully.
The said road is on the way to Philippine Flour Mills.
On the evening of December 14, at least 15 houses were destroyed and many more were heavily damaged after the ground beneath them suddenly ruptured in Barangay Matinik in Lopez, Quezon.
Residents said they felt no earthquake but the concrete walls and foundations of their houses suddenly ruptured. Several houses were totally destroyed while some toppled.
The rupture also misaligned the train tracks that run along the town. The roads in several parts of the town also rose.
Townsfolk said this is the first time such an incident occurred in their area.
Fearing for their safety, the residents evacuated from their homes.
The barangay's water source was also damaged, causing concern in the community.
