Magnitude 5.0 earthquake hits offshore Tawi-Tawi


A magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred offshore Tawi-Tawi on Saturday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The quake, which was recorded at 6:39 a.m., had its epicenter at 02.56°N, 122.99°E - 403 km S 43° E of South Ubian, Tawi-Tawi.

The tectonic earthquake had a depth of 502 km.

No damage and no aftershocks are expected, according to PHIVOLCS.

Earlier on Saturday, at 2:43 a.m., a magnitude 5.7 earthquake also struck offshore General Luna in Surigao del Norte, PHIVOLCS said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
