PHIVOLCS: Kanlaon Volcano had 5 volcanic quakes
Mount Kanlaon, which remains at Alert Level 3, had five volcanic earthquakes in the last 24 hours, PHIVOLCS reported on Saturday.
It also released 5,798 tonnes of Sulfur Dioxide flux added PHIVOLCS in its 24-hour observation summary of the volcano in Negros Island, or from 12 a.m. of Friday up to 12 a.m. of Saturday.
Obscured plumes were also present, and its edifice is inflated, according to the bulletin.
Alert Level 3 means Mount Kanlaon is under “intensified or magmatic unrest."
Under the alert level, evacuation from the six-kilometer radius from the volcano's summit is recommended, and flying of any aircraft close to the volcano is not allowed.
Possible hazards that may occur include sudden explosive eruption, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, Pyroclastic Density Current (PDC), Rockfall and lahars during heavy rains.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Friday assured that the government was on top of the situation amid Kanlaon's restiveness.
Kanlaon's eruption last Monday has affected 11,791 families, or 40,489 persons, in Western Visayas and Central Visayas, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said as of Friday.
Of this number, 4,612 families, or 15,440 individuals, are currently seeking shelter in evacuation centers.
