'Spider boy,' alleged serial burglar in Batangas, cornered in unoccupied house

A serial burglar, who earned the alias Spiderboy while sneaking into homes in Sto. Tomas, Batangas to steal, has been arrested after residents and barangay officers cornered him at an unoccupied house in the city.

According to John Consulta's report on "24 Oras," Spiderboy has been caught on CCTV footage several times while stealing cellphones, gadgets, and food.

One video even had him using a pickup truck he stole from one of the houses. He allegedly used the vehicle to roam the province.

“Marami na pala siyang ginawang serye ng akyat bahay. Mayroong napasok siya nang bahay [na] walang tao, meron ding napasok siya nang natutulog yung may-ari. Nakukuha niya mga gadgets, cellphone, laptop, pera, pati sasakyan,” Santo Tomas chief of police Police Lieutenant Colonel Apolinario Lunar.

(He has committed a lot of burglaries. He was able to enter houses that had no occupant, or while the owner was sleeping. He stole gadgets, cellphones, laptops, money, and even vehicles.)

Spiderboy was recently caught after being cornered by residents and barangay officials in a vacant house in Santo Tomas.

“Ang ginawa nitong si Spiderboy is sinuntok yung mga tanod natin at ito ang ginawa ng mga tanod natin is kanilang inaresto at tinurnover si Spiderboy sa ating kapulisan,” PRO4A Regional Director Police Brigadier General Kenneth Paul Lucas said.

(Spiderboy punched our officers, and they arrested him and turned him over to our police officers.)

Meanwhile, CALABARZON Police reminded the public to secure their houses before going out of town this holiday season.

“Siguraduhin natin na nakalock yung mga pintuan natin. [Ang] mga bintana natin [ay] icheck natin thoroughly not once, not twice, but thrice. Wag natin kalimutan na ibilin sa mga barangay at kapitbahay na kayo po ay aalis," Lucas said.

"Sana po yung recording ng CCTV is nakatago para kung may papasok man sa inyong bahay ay hindi nila makukuha,” he added.

(Let us make sure that our houses are locked. [Our] windows should be checked thoroughly not once, not twice, but thrice. Let us not forget to inform our barangay and neighbors that you are leaving. Our CCTV recording should be archived so that if our house broken into, they cannot steal the camera.) —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
