Easterlies cause floods, landslides in parts of Bicol, CALABARZON

Multiple weather systems have brought heavy rainfall that have caused floods and landslides in parts of CALABARZON and Bicol.

According to a 24 Oras report by Saleema Refran, continuous rains caused a house to fall down a slope due to ground erosion in Labo, Camarines Norte.

The occupants of the house were able to evacuate before the incident.

A similar fate also occurred to houses along the Maharlika Highway, which is currently closed due to cracks forming on several portions of the road.

Other houses in Labo were submerged by floodwater.

Meanwhile, the main road leading into the municipality of Capalonga was also deemed impassable due to the heavy rain.

Clearing operations are currently being conducted to remove logs and mud obstructing the path.

Residents in three different barangays in Tagkawayan, Quezon are also affected by flood.

According to PAGASA, the shear line or a narrow strip where the cold winds of the Northeast Monsoon and the hot winds of the easterlies are the cause of the rainfall in the area.

In the state weather bureau's daily weather forecast on Wednesday afternoon, the easterlies were predicted to cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Central Visayas, Negros Oriental, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
