LIST: Areas within 6-km danger zone of Kanlaon Volcano
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Tuesday released a list of areas that fall within the six-kilometer danger zone as Alert Level 3 is raised over Kanlaon Volcano following its eruption on Monday.
Residents in the following barangays under the six-kilometer danger zone are ordered to evacuate from their homes due to the hazards from Kanlaon Volcano’s activity:
- ??Mailum in Bago City, Negros Occidental
- ??Ilijan in Bago City, Negros Occidental
- ??Ara-Al in La Carlotta, Negros Occidental
- ??Yubo in La Carlotta, Negros Occidental
- S?sag-Ang in La Castellana, Negros Occidental
- M?mansalanao in La Castellana, Negros Occidental
- Cabagnaan in La Castellana, Negros Occidental
- B?biaknabato in La Castellana, Negros Occidental
- ??Masulog in La Castellana, Negros Occidental
- L?linothangan in Canlaon, Negros Oriental
- Malaiba in Canlaon, Negros Oriental
- ??Lumapao in Canlaon, Negros Oriental
- ??Codcod in San Carlos Negros Occidental
Hazards from the volcano include sudden explosive eruption, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, pyroclastic density current (PDC), rockfall, and lahars during heavy rains, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Affected individuals may go to the evacuation centers in the following barangays for their safety:
- Lag-asan in Bago City
- Tabao in Sagay City
- Rizal in San Carlos City
- Barrio Vista Alegre in Bacolod City
- Hilamonan in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental
- Sibucao in San Enrique, Negros Occidental
- Barangay III in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental
- Taculing in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental
- Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental
- Cubay in La Carlota, Negros Occidental
- Sitio Canlayuhan in Baranagy Gil Montilla, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental
Aside from the six-kilometer danger zone, the OCD also released a lahar hazard map showing the areas that are “least to moderately” and “highly” prone to lahars.
Around 87,000 individuals are set to be evacuated, according to the OCD.
On Monday, an explosive eruption occurred at the summit vent of Kanlaon Volcano, producing a voluminous plume that rapidly rose to 4,000 meters.
Ashfall was reported and pyroclastic density currents or PDCs descended the slopes of the volcano.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that Kanlaon Volcano may have a hazardous eruption in the following weeks.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday ensured that the government is ready to assist those affected by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.
Marcos said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has already assured him that it is ready to provide necessary resources.
“So yes, we are ready to support the families, who have been evacuated outside the 6-km danger zone,” Marcos said.
He added that the distribution of food packs to affected families has already started.
