Councilor shot to death on the road in Pangasinan
A councilor of Umingan, Pangasinan died after motorcycle-riding suspects peppered with bullets the vehicle he was driving in Barangay Lubong.
The victim was identified as Ponciano Onia, 59. He sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
He was brought to the hospital but he passed away.
The two other people riding with him in the vehicle are safe.
Authorities found casings of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.
GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon visited Onia’s house where his remains lie, as of this writing, but his family refused to issued a statement.
The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) that will look into the case.
The police have reportedly identified persons of interest.
Onia’s fellow councilors are mourning his loss. At the Umingan town hall, the flag was placed on half staff.
Onia was on his second term as councilor.
The local government unit will reportedly give a reward to whoever can point to the suspects. — GMA Regional TV
