Marawi City vice mayor arrested
Authorities have arrested Marawi City Vice Mayor Annouar Romuros Abedin Abdulrauf morning on Monday, December 2, 2024.
The vice mayor was arrested by virtue of a warrant for murder issued by a court in Caloocan City.
Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) together with the Task Force Marawi, Marawi City Police Station, and the military served the warrant against the vice mayor at the City Hall compound.
The official is set to be turned over to the court that issued the warrant.
Authorities have yet to disclose the details of the case, as of this writing.
The vice mayor also has yet to issue a statement.
In a statement, the NBI said that Anwar Romuros, who is going by Anouar to evade arrest, was wanted for murder and attempted murder.
According to the NBI, the cases were filed by the wife of slain victim Latip Sultan, who was killed during the legitimate service of an arrest warrant in Caloocan City in 2013.
It said that operatives were already implementing the warrant when a group of armed individuals allegedly led by Romuros opened fire and killed Sultan.
The NBI said a witness identified Romuros as Anouar, one of the accused in the cases.
Meanwhile, the bureau said manhunt operations are ongoing as the other accused in the cases are still at large.—GMA Regional TV, with a report from Joahna Lei Casilao/RF, GMA Integrated News
