Kapuso classrooms in Catanduanes served as shelter for residents during Pepito onslaught

Kapuso classrooms in Virac, Catanduanes served as a shelter for residents during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Pepito.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Monday, the seven Kapuso classrooms in Palta Elementary School remained standing even as many other structures got damaged by the strong winds.

Among those who evacuated there was Imelda and her family.

"Dito na lang tayo sa eskwelahan sabi ko, bagong gawa 'yan. Noong bagyong nakaraan sabi ko matibay 'yan kaya dyan kami nagbalak lumipat," she said.

Three Kapuso classrooms in Mabini Elementary School in Panganiban, where Pepito first made landfall, also proved sturdy in the face of calamitous weather.

"Dati kinakabahan kami kapag may paparating na bagyo baka masira tapos nung nagkaroon kami ng GMA Kapuso building… Malaking blessing sa amin," said Teacher Cherilyn Turbado of Mabini Elementary School.

To give students some cheer after the devastation caused by the tropical cyclones and help them feel the spirit of Christmas, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed gift bags to over 400 pupils from kindergarten to Grade 6 in the two schools.

"Noong malaman nila na sila ay bibigyan ng regalo galing sa GMA Kapuso Foundation super saya po nila, parang naibsan yung takot nila noong nakaraang bagyo," said Teacher Gengie Salvidar of Palta Elementary School.

For those who are interested to help, GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
