1 dead in collision with SUV driven by teen in Opol, Misamis Oriental
A woman was killed in a collision between two sports utility vehicles (SUVs) in Opol, Misamis Oriental.
In James Paolo Yap’s report on 24 Oras on Thursday, CCTV footage shows an SUV driving through an intersection and hitting the other car with such force that it spun and flipped multiple times.
The woman—67 years old and a passenger in the car that was hit—was declared dead on the spot from a head injury.
Six others in the car with her, including three children, were injured and brought to the hospital. They are all members of the same family.
“Nasa pinakagilid siya sa backseat, nasa gilid talaga siya ng pintuan which is doon mismo ang point of impact. Nahampas siguro ang kaniyang ulo,” said Opol police station investigator Police Staff Sergeant Daryl Cariliman.
(She was in the back, sitting where the point of impact was. Her head must have been hit hard.)
According to the investigation, the other driver who caused the accident was a 17-year-old who said he was not familiar with the road and did not notice the intersection. He is currently in police custody.
“Meron siyang non-professional driver’s license na ipinakita sa amin which is authorized naman siya sa pag-drive ng private vehicle,” Cariliman said.
(He has a non-professional driver’s license, which is authorized to drive private vehicles.)
The family of the victim is determined to file charges against the driver.
