Carcass of unidentified animal washed ashore in Dumanjug, Cebu

A carcass of what is believed to be that of a huge marine mammal was found on the beach of Dumanjug town in south Cebu Province.

The carcass was spotted in Sitio Balasdiot, Barangay Calaboon on November 15, 2024.

The said marine animal is already on a state of decomposition when discovered.

Authorities and residents could only speculate on the kind of animal it is because even the ocular inspection could not determine at all whether the stranded animal is a huge fish or a marine mammal.

Netizens mentioned that the animal already gave out a foul smell when found.

According to Johann Tejada, technical assistant of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR 7), it is the municipal veterinary office that is the authority when it comes to identification of animals.

Tejada speculated that the animal could have died for over a month before it was stranded on the seashore.

He suggested the immediate burying of the marine animal to prevent possible contagion should the animal died possibly from a certain disease. —GMA Regional TV
